The Indian sportsmen, both men and women are disappointing their fans more and more as each new day dawns and the news from the Olympic Games are increasing;y getting from negative to humiliating. Hardly anyone in the Indian contingent has won laurels for the country and there is barely anything for them to cheer about. This kind of disappointment has spilled into the public sphere and and an increasing number of people are venting their frustration at the players. On the social media the onslaught is worse, even abusive. However, cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar would like to disagree with the general trend the conversation is taking.

Standing up for the beleaguered sportsmen Sachin Tendulkar, when he was quizzed about his reaction to the bad show by the players, says that the most important thing now required for the fans and the entire country to do would be to stand behind and support their players. They are going through a bad time and now is the time to show support for them, he says. Sachin said the team may be down, but they must be supported so that they can rise above their dismal form.

Sachin Tendulkar, who is the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent, said that he is standing steadfastly behind the Indian sportsmen and that he is hopeful of a U—turn in Indian fortunes at the Rio Olympic Games. Here is what Sachin said, “The first half has not gone according to our plan and expectations, but I am sure with our support things will change. I for sure will be with our athletes and back them especially when the chips are down.”

Sachin Tendulkar has been at the Olympic Games in Rio and watched the Indian contingent in practice and during their contests.. He had words of encouragement for them as well as tips on how to handle themselves. Sachin added, “I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the athletes and also went there to support them and watched various competitions. When you go there, you realise how hard they are competing, how hard they are pushing themselves.”

Underlining the fact that these are the best of Indian sportsmen and they are quite dedicated to the cause plus giving their best despite not getting the kind of results that the country is expecting, Sachin added, “Olympics is the biggest sporting event and athletes prepare themselves for years and years. After all these preparations, you lose by a fraction. There are ups and downs. Being a sportsperson myself I understand how disappointing it is sometimes when things don’t go according to your plan.”

Sachin further added, “What matters truly to me is your intent, the way you go about, perform and represent your nation. When I spent time with the athletes I could feel their energy. It was an honour to be there among all these champions.”

Unfortunately, from the Indian women’s hockey team, archers, tennis players to the shooters, the negative results have not stopped coming and this is leading to huge disappointments for the fans back home.
