Ravindra Jadeja Joins 300-Test Wickets Club: World No. 1 Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made history on Monday by becoming the third Indian cricketer to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 3,000 runs and taking 300 wickets in Test cricket. Jadeja reached this milestone during the ongoing second Test match against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur, where he dismissed Khaled Ahmed, marking his 300th wicket.
Historic feat
Khaled was the last Bangladeshi batter to be dismissed in the first innings, caught and bowled by Jadeja in a pivotal moment for the Indian team. With this achievement, Jadeja joins the ranks of former Indian captain Kapil Dev and legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who are the only other players in Indian cricket history to accomplish the double of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in Tests.
Kapil Dev was the first to reach this landmark, finishing his illustrious career with 5,248 runs and 434 wickets in 131 matches. Ashwin followed suit in December 2022, accumulating 3,422 runs and 523 wickets in 102 matches played so far.
Jadeja’s milestone is particularly significant as he also became the first Indian left-arm spinner to achieve 300 Test wickets. He is now the seventh bowler overall to take 300 or more wickets for India in the five-day format.
The record for the most Test wickets for India remains with Anil Kumble, who ended his career with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ashwin stands second with 523 wickets, followed by Kapil Dev with 434. Harbhajan Singh, another legendary spinner, took 417 wickets in 103 Tests, while Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma both finished their careers with 311 wickets each, in 92 and 105 matches respectively.
As Jadeja continues to excel on the international stage, cricket fans eagerly anticipate his future contributions to Indian cricket. His remarkable performance not only strengthens India’s position in world cricket but also inspires aspiring cricketers across the nation.
