Rahul Dravid, during the post-match press conference of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final, said that he has not given a thought about his association with Team India for the future. With the final, Rahul Dravid has reached the end of his two-year contract as the coach of the Indian Cricket team. Multiple reports suggest that he is likely to be replaced by VVS Laxman.
On being asked about his past two years as a coach, achieving a high success rate, he said, “I haven’t had time to think about that. I have just walked out of the game.” Team India dominated the entire World Cup but lost the finals to Australia. “To be honest, I am not someone who is going to judge and analyze myself. I am proud to have worked with an excellent sports staff, and great players, and it has been a privilege.”
Dravid on the Finals
On being asked about the finals, Dravid said that Team India was the favourite because they had played great cricket. However, he added that Australia as a strong opposition couldn’t be neglected, and they were also coming to the finals winning eight games.
“We were 30-40 runs short because we kept on losing wickets. If we had scored 280-290, they were 60 for three, so it could have been a different result. However, while chasing 240, they were just a partnership away,” Rahul said.
Dravid on Rohit Sharma
On Rohit’s captaincy, Rahul added that he has been an exceptional captain, and has desired to lead by example. As a player, he has set the tone in every game and helped India play the aggressive brand of cricket.
Dravid’s tenure as a Coach
Under Dravid’s coaching, India reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year, lost to Australia in the finals of the World Test Championship, and on November 19 missed out on the World Cup in the finals. India, however, did win the Asia Cup under his coaching.
