In the bustling heart of Chennai, the stage is set for an epic showdown as defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on the formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural match of IPL 2024 on March 22. With the announcement of the fixture lineup for the first 17 days of the tournament by the BCCI, the cricket fans around the world are thrilled for the upcoming tournament.

The unveiling of the initial schedule promises a whirlwind of action from March 22 to April 7, encompassing a total of 21 matches across 10 cities. Each participating team is slated to play a minimum of three games and a maximum of five during this period.

Next fixture post LS elections dates’ announcement

Amidst the excitement, the BCCI emphasized its commitment to collaborate closely with government and security agencies, ensuring adherence to all necessary protocols and advisories, especially in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections in India. The apex cricket body affirmed its flexibility, intending to review and address any scheduling concerns arising from the electoral process.

Historically, the IPL has navigated through various challenges, including accommodating general elections. While the 2009 edition was entirely held overseas in South Africa, and the 2014 season witnessed partial relocation to the UAE, the 2019 tournament remarkably unfolded in India despite concurrent elections.

Blockbuster weekend awaits

This season’s IPL promises an electrifying start, featuring two double-header weekends. The action-packed lineup includes riveting matchups such as the Punjab Kings hosting the Delhi Capitals on March 23, followed by the Kolkata Knight Riders squaring off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on the same day.

On March 24, we will be treated to a showdown in Jaipur as the Rajasthan Royals take on the Lucknow Super Giants, followed by an evening clash between the Gujarat Titans and the formidable Mumbai Indians.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals have opted to kick off their campaign in Visakhapatnam, where they will lock horns with the Chennai Super Kings on March 31, before facing the Kolkata Knight Riders at the same venue on April 3.
