Amid heavy rainfall in Bengaluru the opening Test between India and New Zealand in the city has been washed out today. The toss, scheduled to take place at 9 am, could not take place as planned due to relentless rain pouring over the city since morning, PTI reported.
The weather did not deter fans from gathering at the stadium to witness the play.
The officials have decided to proceed to lunch now without a single ball being bowled today.
India currently leads the World Test Championship standings, and a 3-0 victory in the upcoming series against New Zealand would nearly guarantee its place in the final at Lord’s next June. After securing a 2-0 win against Bangladesh in the previous test series, India is fielding a full-strength squad once again. New Zealand, on the other hand, has already had a lengthy subcontinental tour, which started with a one-off test against Afghanistan in Greater Noida that was washed out, followed by a 2-0 defeat in Sri Lanka.
