India at Rio Olympics: Shuttler Kidambi Srikanth today entered quarter-finals of the Olympic Games by beating Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen keeping India’s medal hope alive in the Olympiad. World number 11 Kidambi Srikanth registered a 21-19, 21-19 victory over world number 5, Jan O Jorgensen in 42 minutes long pre-quarterfinal tie. The world number 5, Jorgensen gave Srikanth a tough fight with both scoring same points in the two rounds, respectiverly.
Srikanth has been struggling with his form from the start of the Rio Olympics but this win over world number 5 player will provide a much-needed boost to the shuttler. Earlier, Srikanth has defeated Sweden ‘s Henri Hurskainen 21-6, 21-18 in his preliminaries encounter. In his men’s singles opener event, Srikanth has beaten Mexico’s Lino Munoz 2-0. “I was tense but not for my qualification, it was my game that I was worried about since I knew if I can play well, I will automatically qualify,” Srikanth told PTI. Srikanth also said that he is not worried about his ranking but lamented that he had no time for traning as he was contesting in one event after another from PBL to ABC. But the shuttler said that the championships, on the other hand, have helped him in identifying his weak areas and he has taken out positivity out of every match he had played.

“But I think it kind of helped me identify the areas where I need to work on and it helped me in my preparation of Olympics. Every match counts, every tournament counts, whether it is a win or loss, it is all about how you take it. you need to take the positives out of every match you play. So it kind of helped me,” said Srikanth.
