Bangladesh’s opening batsman Soumya Sarkar, in the second ODI against New Zealand, has achieved a remarkable feat by playing a memorable knock of 169 runs off 151 balls and leading his team to a respectable total of 292 at the time when none of his teammates could manage to score 50 runs. He hit 22 fours and 2 sixes in his innings and maintained a strike rate of 111.92 at the end of his innings. 

Soumya Sarkar breaks Tendulkar Record

With the courtesy of his brilliant innings, he broke the record for the highest individual score in New Zealand by a sub-continent batsman. The master blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored a record 163 runs in Christchurch 2009 against the Kiwis in their backyard.

However, New Zealand have won the game comfortably by 7 wickets. Touring New Zealand for a white ball tour, Bangladesh is playing a three-game ODIs series, followed by a three-game T20 series. With this win, New Zealand have secured the ODI series with a 2-0 win.

With the bat, Will Young and Henry Nicholls missed out on their centuries, scoring 89 and 95 respectively. Handy contributions came from Rachin Ravindra, Tom Lathan and Tom Blundell, and together they ensured that the team chased down the target in the 47th over. Soumya Sarkar was named the player of the match for his memorable innings in the losing cause.
