Onion price surge hits Delhi

In Delhi, the price of wholesale onion has gone up remarkably, with sellers finding it difficult to keep up. A local vendor while talking to ANI, stated, ”The price of onions has soared up from Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kilo. As we buy onions from the mandi, any rise in those rates directly impacts our selling price. Despite the fact, that the surge in the onion prices has hit the sales people are still buying it because it is a crucial part of our meals here.”

One of the buyers expressed concern regarding the price hike as it is impacting our household’s budget, ”Onion prices should have dropped by now because of the season, still, we are purchasing it at Rs 70 per kilo. The hike is affecting our eating habits and I appeal to the government to intervene at least for the essential vegetable.”As per the latest report, onion prices in Delhi have gone up to Rs 80 per kilogram, adding further pressure to consumers’ pockets.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, onion prices have also hiked in the same manner, adding to the financial strain on the common man. Dr Khan, another buyer, told ANI, ”Onion and garlic prices have multiplied and are affecting the household’s expenses heavily. Recently, I have to pay Rs 360 for 5 kilos of onions.” Another buyer also shared his distress, ”The prices have surged from Rs 40-60 to Rs 70-80 Rs per kilo. However, onion prices fluctuate and they may fall eventually just like the stock market. Kishore, who is a seller blamed inflation for the price hike but also noted the sustained demand. ”Prices have gone high to around Rs 70-75 but people are still buying because it is a staple.
