Supreme Court on Monday said that disaster mitigation fund should be created by the Centre to tackle drought like situation. For the calamity hit farmers, SC said that Centre should revise the drought management manual to give relief to farmers.
Also, time limit declaration of drought should be defined by the govt the apex court said.
In its statement for Agricultural Ministry, Supreme court said,”Agriculture Ministry should hold a meeting in a
week with Chief Secys of Bihar, Gujarat & Haryana to assess drought situation.”
Lok Sabha was informed yesterday that over one lakh villages in 313 districts of 13 states, sheltering roughly one-fourth of India’s population, have been affected by drought and scarcity of drinking water.
Making a brief intervention during a general discussion under Rule 193, Rural Development Minister Birender Singh said that going by statistics, it appeared that nearly 25 percent of the country’s population was drought-hit.
