The controversy around Padmavati is increasing by the day as the critics are panning it for its allegedly skewed content. It may well take a toll on the release of the film. Protests are pouring in from not only the political landscape but also from the royals of Rajasthan as well alleging that the character sketch of Rani Padmavati is incorrect. From ransacking the sets of Padmavati to a scuffle with film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film has already tasted al lot of bitterness. Karni Sena and Bajrang Dal have held protests against the release of the upcoming movie and demanded a ban be imposed on it. What else happened over the release of Padmavati? Take a look:

Various groups, most of them from the Rajput community, have accused Sanjay Leela Bhansali of “distorting” historical facts in the film which features Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. (PTI)

“Padmavati”, which is scheduled to release on December 1 has been facing a lot of trouble since early this year. Bhansali was assaulted by activists of a Rajput community group, Karni Sena, while shooting in Jaipur. The group has been constantly seeking a ban on the release of the film, which they claim is distorting the history. (ANI)
Mayuri Singh, the erstwhile Royal from Rajasthan’s Bundi, stepped out in support of the much controversial film ‘Padmavati’ on Saturday. The Queen said that the director of the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has assured that nothing is wrong with it and so “let the movie release first”. -
The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the petition that was filed against the release of the film. While dismissing the petition, Supreme Court said that the Censor Board has not yet issued a certificate to Padmavati, it is an independent body and therefore SC should not intervene in their jurisdiction. Further while refusing to entertain any plea seeking a stay on the release of the Bollywood film, SC said that there are enough guidelines for Censor Board for certification of a film. (ANI)

On one hand were the film is being targetted by various groups, Bollywood has come out in support of Padmavati. Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Karan Johar have come out in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali too even as he faces trouble ahead of the release of his magnum opus, saying films are just a mode of expression and they should not be misinterpreted as history.
