Dishoom releases today, Friday, in cinemas and much is expected from this movie too even though the cinemas are still feeling the after-effects of Salman Khan's Sultan as well as Rajinikanth's major achievement in the form of Kabali. Still, with so much going on, Dishoom is expected to give a good fight to these movies and earn a good opening day box office collection for itself. Why is that? Because, forget the rest, the film is an action comedy (rarely seen in India), it has cricket in it, kidnapping even and it stars John Abraham, who has emerged as a versatile actor and upcoming star Varun Dhawan who has made a name for himself with his standout performances. So, to give our readers a helping hand, lets review Dishoom and bring out its important facets: (Image: Bollywood Hungama)

Dishoom starts off with a bang. The Indian cricket team has ventured into the Middle East to play the mighty Pakistani team. It is a massive match for both teams and they are psyched up and patriotic fervour is at its highest. We shall ignore the fact that this is a region that Team India is known not to frequent much, but this time it did and ends up having its ace cricketer kidnapped. Reason behind the mastermind kidnapping is that he has a whopping Rs 400 cr debt to pay off and he thinks kidnapping a celebrity, a cricketer, will certainly help him pay it off – after all India is a cricket mad country and it will do anything to save its cricketers. Reason for that debt makes for interesting reading too. (Image: Bollywood Hungama)

The kidnapping of the ace Indian cricketer happens just 36 hours before the crucial match and it throws all cricketing as well as political authorities in a tizzy. Will the top cricketer miss the match? To pre-empt any such humiliating conclusion, the Indian government sends its top cop to rescue the cricketer and save the country a lot of embarrassment – out there in the Middle East, it is all about your patriotism vs mine. More than that there is a palpable tension brewing and the government fears a backlash on a national scale in India. After all, cricketers are our new deities, our favourite gods, even if they tend to be fallible. (Image: Bollywood Hungama)

Problem is that the Indian police officer picks a ne'er-do-well cop who is useless at solving cases as a sidekick. A lot of edge-of-seat action happens in quick time as the good Indian cop searches for clues to the whereabouts of the cricketer and the identity and location of the villain. Along the way they manage to also pick up Jacqueline Fernandez, a thief, as a helper. She turns out to be the googly on which rests the fate of the entire exercise even as doubts surface about her loyalty. All scintillating stuff. (Image: Bollywood Hungama)

In this 'whodunit' the action flies thick and fast. What happened to the India-Pakistan match? Who will play what role? Will the Indian public work itself up into a fury? Will there be a happy ending? Or will the cricket fans see a tragedy being played out in front of them? All of this forms the rest of the movie. (Image: Bollywood Hungama)
