The hype and the hoopla are over and Rjinikanth starrer Kabali box office collections are all set to face reality. At least as far as Sunday figures and thereafter are concerned. The film has seen extraordinary collections on day one of Rs 48 crore and was well placed to go above the Rs 50 mark on Saturday when news finally came in, but now with Sunday's figures under watch, the entire exercise is turning into a creating a mind-boggling array of numbers. These numbers look to be a fitting tribute to Rajini mania.

However, while these are some gargantuan numbers, even bigger ones are being qouted in some reports that defy belief. With a magnificent start on day 1 itself, there is no need at all to fatten up the numbers artificially as they are doing well on their own. A take in excess of Rs 48 crore on day 1 that went one better on day 2 and then pulling off a matching sum on day 3 has provisionally taken the Rajinikanth powered Kabali collection as high as Rs 150 cr.

This is a rare achievement and defies belief, the same as Baahubali did when it first appeared in cinemas and took everyone by surprise to sensationally skyrocket. While that was truly a surprise, Kabali is not so much simply because it has been marketed non-stop from every nook and cranny in India and was expected to do well. Rajini has been a big star and even though his last two releases bombed at the box office, Kabali was expected to re-establish him at at the top in his southern stronghold and, on top of that, grab a big chunk of the northern market too.

And the best part about the whole process is that in the last week or so, the foundation had been laid for such a large roll out that it did not even require the personal presence of Rajinikanth in India. He was not even in India on release day and in fact he came back home well after that. Truly Rajini has shown a new way to generate hype that does not require the physical presence of the superstar.

And all of this has added value to the Kabali revenues. The entire industry has been on a high since well before Friday with expectations of major gains and after that, the ecstatic reactions of fans have been emulated by those involved with the making of the film or showcasing it too. Kabali predictions? Very tough to call as the week days means that everyone will be bound tgo to their workplaces and educational institutions.
