Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Mittal, has topped the list of Indian philanthropists, with donations amounting to approximately Rs 7,000 crore. This donation is 10% of the Bharti Family's wealth which also includes 3% of their stake in Bharti Airtel, towards supporting the activities of Bharti Foundation, the Group’s philanthropic arm. This announcement came after Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and wife Rohini promised to donate half of their wealth to through the ‘Giving Pledge’ network. The “Giving Pledge” was created by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet in August 2010 to encourage billionaires to dedicate their wealth to philanthropy.
