Indian Army hits insurgents in Myanmar; kill 15 Hitting back at rebels who killed 18 soldiers in Manipur, special forces of the army today carried out a surgical strike inside Myanmar, slaying about 15 insurgents of the groups believed to be responsible for the deadly ambush. The strike was carried out by commandos on specific intelligence input in coordination with Myanmarese authorities, with the Army saying that "significant casualties" had been inflicted on two militant groups believed to be NSCN(K) and KYKL. Sources said about 15 insurgents were killed in the assault with no casualties among the soldiers. (Reuters)

Eknath Khadse's claim that 'namaz is yoga; Maharashtra's Minorities Affairs Minister Eknath Khadse courted controversy after comparing yoga with namaz, evoking a sharp response from the opposition here today. While the Congress called Khadse's statement a "despicable" one which is intended to hurt sentiments of the minority community, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) said that the minister got his analogy completely wrong. "Namaz is nothing but Yoga. All actions that one does in Namaz is done in Yoga as well. So only Yoga has been renamed a Namaz, but we have not forced anybody to do Yoga. If somebody wants to do it, they can do it. It is an individual choice," Khadse told reporters here. (PTI)

AAP's Jitendra Singh Tomar arrested on charges of possessing fake degrees</br> Delhi Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was in police lock up tonight highlighting the face-off between the Centre and the capital's Aam Aadmi party (AAP) government after his arrest by police on charges of possessing fake degrees. 49-year-old Tomar, MLA from Trinagar and a first-time minister, was remanded to four-day police custody by a city court hours after he was arrested for allegedly forging his science graduation, law mark sheets and a migration certificate. 2 killed as Audi crashes into taxi in Mumbai</br> An Audi driven by a lady lawyer rammed a taxi, resulting in death of two people including the taxi driver on the Eastern Freeway here in the early hours today, police said. The lawyer, identified as Janhvi Gadkar, 35, who was later arrested, appeared to be in an inebriated condition at the time of accident, they said. A local court remanded her in three-day police custody. Mumbai police spokesperson and deputy commissioner of police Dhananjay Kulkarni said, "There was head-on collision in two cars coming from opposite sides and two persons were killed." The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Abdul Sayyad (55) and Mohammad Salim Sabuwala (50). (Thinkstock)

Those opposing 'Surya namaskar' should drown in sea:Adityanath</br> Firebrand BJP leader Yogi Adityanath has kicked up another controversy when he said that those opposing 'Surya namaskar' should "drown in the sea" in remarks that came amid protests by Muslim groups over the drill during the Yoga Day on June 21. The RSS also reacted critically to objections to the Yoga drill. The comments made by Adityanath, a Gorakhpur MP, at an event in Prime Minister Narenda Modi's Lok Sabha constituency in Varanasi were today slammed by the Opposition which accused him of trying to create a "communal divide". Man enters jaguar's enclosure, boasts on Facebook</br> A 26-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly entering the enclosure of a jaguar at Nehru Zoological Park here and harassing it. Areeb Taha Mehdi, who works as a share-broker, entered the big cat's 'night-house' at the zoo on June 6 after bribing an animal-keeper and harassed the animal, said DCP V Satyanarayana. "He shot video and pictures of the jaguar and uploaded them on his Facebook wall," the DCP said. Based on a complaint from assistant curator Mohiduddin, a case was lodged under the Indian Penal Code and the Wildlife Protection Act as entering the enclosure is strictly prohibited. Police tracked Areeb down from his Facebook account. (Reuters)

Indian Railways to remove chains from trains</br> Pulling a chain to stop a train will soon be thing of the past as the Railways has decided to do away with it as the facility was prone to regular misuse and led to loss of revenues to the public transporter. Passengers would instead get in direct touch with the loco pilots in case of emergency. They would be provided the contact number of the drivers. The measure has already been initiated by the Railways by removing the chains in existing coaches, officials said, adding communications have been sent to the coach manufacturing units as well. Police registers case against star hotel for keeping Deccan Chronicle's P K Iyer</br> The Odisha police has registered a case against the star hotel that provided accommodation to P K Iyer, vice-chairman of the Deccan Chronicle group who was arrested by the CBI in connection with a Rs 357-crore bank loan fraud case. "A case has been registered against the hotel on the charge of providing accommodation to the most wanted for months without properly verifying his identity," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi said. Police had arrested Iyer from the hotel in posh Nayapalli area on Friday night. Earlier, he had stayed incognito in Kolkata and Port Blair before coming to Bhubaneswar, sources said. (PTI)

'CM quota flat allotment files have gone missing'</br> Over 1,300 files pertaining to alloment of flats since 1982 to beneficiaries from Chief Minister's housing quota have gone missing, the Maharashtra Government informed the Bombay High Court today. "At least 1,300 files of Housing Department alone are missing," public prosecutor Jayesh Yagnik told Justices Abhay Oka and Reveti Mohite-Dhere, who were hearing a PIL filed by activist Ketan Tirodkar alleging irregularities in allotment of flats under CM's housing quota.
