Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu announced the Swachh Survekshan Awards in New Delhi on Thursday morning, in which Indore – the largest and most populous city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh – grabbed the top spot while Bhopal came in second. New Delhi Municipal Corporation was placed at the 7th spot while two cities from Gujarat – Vadodara and Surat – also made the list of 10 cleanest cities of India. Speaking on the occasion, Naidu highlighted government’s efforts to make India clean and said it has commissioned Swachh Survekshan in 434 cities and about 37 lakh citizens participated in the survey this year.
