Odd-even scheme in Delhi: The scheme for cars in its second phase will again be implemented from April 15 to April 30, Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Thursday. He said the scheme cannot be implemented on a permanent basis in Delhi — home to nearly 90 lakh vehicles — till public transport was in a position to cope with all those who would take to it. (PTI)
Mittu Chandilya: AirAsia India's Managing Director and CEO Mittu Chandilya has quit. The media reports said Chandilya has put in papers amid differences over management issues. Chandilya, who was appointed as CEO in 2013, was elevated as managing director in August last year. The carrier started operations in June 2014. The airline is a three-way joint venture in which AirAsia Berhad owns 49 per cent, Tata Sons has 30 per cent and the rest is with Arun Bhatia's Telestra Tradeplace. -
BSE Sensex: In a bloody carnage on Dalal Street, Sensex slumped 807 points on Thursday, making it to the list of worst 10 biggest falls. According to market experts, weak global markets and disappointing corporate earnings affected the market sentiments on Thursday. The 30-share index closed 3.40 per cent down at 22,951.83. Prior to Thursday's fall, the 30-share index tumbled 833.98 points on February 11, 2008.

Small Savings rate: Interest rates on small savings schemes could be reduced by 50 to 100 basis points (bps) with effect from April 1. Henceforth, the interest rate would also be reset on a quarterly basis instead of yearly basis. An official announcement in this regard is expected in a day or two. Banks have long cited high small savings rates as one reason for their inability to fully transmit interest rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: Maruti Suzuki India that unveiled the Ingis concept at the Auto Expo 2016, is planning to launch the production-model of the compact crossover sometime in the second half of this calendar year. Unlike the Maruti Vitara Brezza which will be sold through regular Maruti dealerships, the Ignis will be sold via the company’s premium dealership range Nexa. And despite being a slightly more up-market product than other compact crossovers in the country, the Ignis is likely to carry an aggressive price tag to attract masses.
Lenovo Vibe K4 Note: Lenovo Vibe K4 Note smartphone priced at Rs 11,999 will be available without any registrations from February 15 on Amazon India. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note was launched on Amazon India on January 5 and the first flash sale was held on January 19. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note claims to have sold 1,80,000 units since the first flash sale. The company claims to have received over 1.1 million unique registrations for the device and AntVR bundle. -
Free Basics by Facebook: Facebook on Thursday said it has shut down its Free Basics programme that aimed to provide free internet access to people who could not afford to pay for data.Free Basics is a joint service by Facebook in partnership with Reliance Communications. The move comes after Trai earlier this week ordered that no service provider shall enter into any kind of pact with any person, or organisation, “that has the effect of discriminatory tariffs for data services being offered or charged to the consumer on the basis of content,” or offer data on “differential pricing” plans.
Wipro: Wipro announced that it will acquire HealthPlan Services for $460 million (about Rs 3,150 crore), a move that will help the country's third-largest software services firm strengthen its position in the US health insurance market. Wipro to acquire HealthPlan Services from Water Street Healthcare Partners, a strategic investor focused exclusively on the health care industry, the Indian software major said in a statement.As part of the agreement, Wipro will acquire 100 per cent of HealthPlan Services' shares for a purchase consideration of $460 million, it added. -
Tata Motors: Tata Motors on Thursday posted a better than expected 2% decline in its consolidated net profit for the October-December quarter at Rs 3,508 crore. Consolidated revenue during the period was also above estimates with a 2.9% increase at Rs 72,256 crore, largely aided by strong sales of Jaguar Land Rover in the UK, Europe, North America and other overseas markets, which helped in partially offsetting lower sales in China and weaker model mix in the quarter. On the domestic front medium and heavy commercial vehicles volume saw a robust growth. (Reuters)

Indian Rupee: The Indian rupee on Thursday plummeted by 45 paise to end at an over 29-month low of 68.30 a dollar on fresh demand for the US currency from banks and importers in view of sharp fall in equities amid foreign capital outflows. The market benchmark Sensex on Thursday crashed 807 points to drop below 23,000-mark, its lowest level in 21 months, on concerns over global economy and mounting bad loans as also weak quarterly earnings of state-run banks.
