Income Tax Return Deadline Extension 2025: As the ITR deadline approaches, taxpayers are speculating about an extension. Every year, last minute portal issues, huge rush and delayed filings lead to demands for more time and many are now wondering if the government will give more time. Though there is no official statement, the buzz around extension is on and taxpayers are cautious about what to do next.

What is Income Tax Return?

Income Tax Return (ITR) is an official document submitted by an individual or organisation to report their income, expenses and other financial details to the Income Tax Department. It helps to determine the tax payable or refundable for a financial year. Filing ITR also enables the government to monitor income, ensure compliance and give refund if excess tax is paid. For individuals and businesses earning above a certain limit, it is a mandatory requirement to ensure financial transparency and accountability.
