Indian equity benchmarks closed Monday’s trade on a muted note. The Nifty 50 closed the day 41 points or 0.16% higher at 25,763, and the Sensex rose 40 points or 0.05% to end at 83,978.
However, the banking stocks outperformed benchmarks. The Nifty Bank settled 325 points or 0.56% higher at 58,101. The midcap stocks also surged in today’s trade. The BSE Midcap surged 294 points, or 0.62%, at 47,338. The BSE Smallcap finished 382 points or 0.71% higher at 54,258.

Indices in intraday trade
The indices closed the trade on a positive note. During the session, out of 3,212 trading stocks, 1,798 advanced, while 1,313 declined, and 101 remained unchanged. Today, 104 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high. Meanwhile, 64 stocks touched a new 52-week low.
Top gainers
Shriram Finance was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Monday’s session, closing 6.18% higher. It was followed by Tata Consumer Products, Apollo Hospitals, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.
Top losers
Maruti Suzuki’s shares were the biggest losers in today’s trade, declining 3.4%. It was followed by ITC, TCS, Larsen & Toubro, and JSW Steel were the only losers.
Top sectors in Monday’s trade
The Tea/Coffee sector’s stocks rose the most in Monday’s trade, rising 2.5% in the market capitalisation. Further, telecommunication stocks were followed by the plastic sector stocks, which were further followed by the mining sector stocks. The glass stocks stood behind the beverages (alcoholic) sector. However, the tobacco sector stocks fell the most.
Best and worst performing business groups
The Shriram Group’s market cap rose the most in today’s session, rising 5.9%. It was followed by the Jaipuria Group. Apart from that, Esaar Group’s market capitalisation rose the most, increasing 3.9%. In the list of Esaar Group stocks, Black Box’s share rallied almost 5%.
