The combined market capitalisation of all listed stocks on BSE hit the Rs 400 lakh crore milestone for the first time ever during intra-day trade on Monday when the Nifty and Sensex both hit record highs early on in the session.

Over the past nine months, the market has seen a remarkable gain of Rs 100 lakh crore, including contributions from various new listings such as IPOs and FPOs, but primarily driven by significant increases in share prices.

This marks the first instance that the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies has exceeding such a key milestone.

The 30-share BSE benchmark experienced a substantial surge, jumping 425.62 points to establish a new record high of 74,673.84 during early trade on April 8.

Thanks to the buoyancy in equities, the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies reached an unprecedented milestone of Rs 4,01,16,018.89 crore.

The Nifty index, which touched the Rs 300 lakh crore mark on 5 July 2023 when it stood at 19,400-level, has since witnessed a remarkable surge of over 16%, culminating in a fresh peak of 22,623.90.

Notably, the rally has been particularly pronounced in smaller stocks, with hundreds of small and midcap stocks yielding multibagger returns.
