Petrol, Diesel Price Today 18 September 2024: The government of India has notified that it has lessened the windfall tax on produced crude oil to zero per tonne and it will be implemented from today (September 18). This tax also known as Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) is evaluated every two weeks based on the average oil prices during the period. The last revision was made on August 31, and the windfall tax was set at Rs 1,850 per tonne. The SAED on the export of petrol, diesel and ATF has been held on to nil.

Meanwhile, oil prices were steady on Wednesday after clocking gains in the last two days. Investors are also looking forward to the Federal Reserve’s interest rate cut which is anticipated to take place later this evening. Brent crude futures for November were down by 3 cents to $73.67 a barrel whereas US crude futures for October were lowered by 11 cents or 0.2% to $71.08 a barrel, as reported by Reuters.

According to Sriram Iyer, Senior Research Analyst at Reliance Securities, ”Looking ahead from an intraday perspective, NYMEX and Brent crude oil prices have started weaker this early Wednesday morning in Asian trading ahead of EIA inventory and Fed meeting outcome. The consensus is that weekly inventories will fall by 100,000 barrels, and gasoline supplies will climb by 1.0 million barrels.”
