As the Indian stock market reels under global jitters triggered by recession fears and Donald Trump’s proposed tariff policies, investors back home have a different concern – Will the stock market be open tomorrow, April 10?
The answer is No. Both the NSE and BSE will remain shut on Thursday, April 10, on account of Mahavir Jayanti, a public holiday.
With rising market volatility and heightened trading activity in recent weeks, many market participants were unsure whether Mahavir Jayanti would be a trading holiday. Adding to the confusion is the fact that April 10 falls on a Thursday, a working weekday for the stock market.
But a quick check on the official websites – bseindia.com and nseindia.com clears all doubts. According to the Stock Market Holidays 2025 list available on both platforms, trading will be suspended across all segments – equity, derivatives, SLB (Securities Lending and Borrowing), currency, and EGR (Electronic Gold Receipt) on April 10.
April brings a cluster of stock market holidays
If you are an active trader or an investor trying to time your next trade, it is important to note that April 2025 is packed with multiple stock market holidays.
Here is a quick snapshot:
April 10 (Thursday): Mahavir Jayanti
April 14 (Monday): Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti
April 18 (Friday): Good Friday
That means the stock market will remain closed not only on April 10 but also for a long stretch starting from Saturday, April 12 to Monday, April 14.
Regular trading will resume on April 11
The Indian stock markets follow a fixed schedule for equity trading, that is, open Monday to Friday, 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM, excluding weekends and public holidays. Since Thursday is a declared holiday, normal trading will resume on Friday, April 11.
