Just like Instagram’s feature of resharing status updates, WhatsApp might bring a similar feature for its users. As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to bring a ‘reshare status’ update.
According to sources, WhatsApp is developing a new feature that can allow you to reshare status updates. This feature is quite similar to Instagram’s feature, where we get to share other’s stories or status updates.
WhatsApp to introduce ‘reshare status’ feature
WABetaInfo explained in a blog post that the “Reshare Status Updates” feature will enable users to reshare status updates where they have been mentioned. This eventually aims to make it easier for users to share content with their contacts.
It is believed that the new feature, named “Reshare Status Updates,” is designed to simplify the process of sharing status updates where you have been tagged/mentioned. For example, you get tagged in a story or get mentioned by someone. This new feature will allow you to reshare that update with your contacts, ensuring that there is a broader dissemination of relevant content.
But how will this feature work? WABetaInfo highlighted that when launched, the feature will include a new button within the status update interface. This button can allow you to easily reshare the status updates where you have been mentioned. This process is designed to be seamless, saving users the hassle of taking screenshots of them being mentioned in stories.
What’s next
Currently, the feature is expected to be available only to Beta testers. However, the proposed feature is still under development and will be part of a future update.This is not for the first time that WhatsApp is taking inspiration from Instagram features.
Reportedly, a few days WhatsApp shared plans of enabling users to create a WhatsApp account by using username, just like we do on Instagram. According to a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to create unique usernames for their profiles. You can use these usernames to chat with different people without actually exchanging contact numbers. This approach also aims to prioritize privacy and streamlines the process of connecting with others. Eventually allowing you to create a personalised online presence without sharing your phone number.
