Amidst the rising use of artificial intelligence (AI), many organisations are adopting AI on a large scale. From the IT sector to the communication sector, everyone is using AI. To add to this, Zoom, a communication platform, recently made a stand for using AI during its rebranding event.
On November 27, Zoom rebranded from Zoom Video Communications Inc. to Zoom Communications Inc. The aim behind this new name is to become the first AI-driven company to bring seamless hybrid work solutions, the company claimed. Let’s take a look at how this will change the way you connect with people.
Zoom Gets a New Name: Zoom Communications Inc.
In an official blog post titled “Allow Us to Reintroduce Ourselves,” CEO Eric Yuan said that the rebranding will make Zoom “an AI-first company delivering modern, hybrid work solutions that enable you to collaborate seamlessly.” He explained that starting in 2011, the company’s goal was to be the ‘best video conferencing solution,’ but now, it aims to make Zoom an ‘AI-first company.’
But what does this actually mean? Yuan explained that Zoom will now include an AI companion, which can be integrated into the platform. This means you can use AI for all your video conferencing tasks. For example, if you are in a meeting and are asked to take minutes, you can ask your AI companion to note down the important points discussed during the meeting.
You can also ask AI to translate languages spoken by colleagues from other countries. If you are unable to understand their language, you no longer need a third-party tool like Google Translate. Now, you can translate foreign languages into a language you understand in real-time with AI.
The Future Roadmap
The addition of an AI assistant to the Zoom workspace is aimed at reducing the workload of users. Yuan further highlighted that he believes these capabilities will transform the platform into a fully customisable digital twin. This means the platform will be equipped with your institutional knowledge, freeing up a whole day’s worth of work and “allowing you to work just four days per week.”
But does this mean ‘Zoom’ is gone? In response to this, Yuan said that Zoom is still here, just with a new makeover!
To support its future AI goals, the company said it will be raising funds. The firm also announced that its third-quarter revenue reached $1.177 billion, marking a 3.6% year-over-year growth. However, fourth-quarter figures are expected to be less robust. The company predicts revenue to range between $1.175 billion and $1.180 billion.
