Poco, a Xiaomi spin-off brand will launch India’s first HyperOS-powered smartphone after all. Not Xiaomi, or even Redmi. The Poco X6 Pro will run Xiaomi’s new Android 14 powered HyperOS software right out of the gate when it launches in India on January 11. A Poco X6 is also launching alongside although software details on that one are under the wraps. Presumably, it will be run MIUI 14 based on Android 13. But we’ll see.
HyperOS is being billed as a new-age software and a big change from how Xiaomi does these things or rather, has been doing these things over the past many years. Its update cycle record outside of China has been less than satisfactory so far even as rivals have started to break new ground on this front, and so HyperOS is widely anticipated to close that gap as and when it starts to arrive on more devices.
Xiaomi India is kicking off the proceedings with the 13 Pro and Pad 6, and eventually more should be added to the list, but the company for some reason decided to launch the Redmi Note 13 series with the older MIUI 14 based on Android 13 and not HyperOS, a decision that could jeopardise sales. To be actively promoting HyperOS as your next big thing and launching your most popular line-up at the same time without it, feels like a bit of a contradiction, only proving the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Anyhow, Redmi’s loss is Poco’s gain and basis of everything we know about the Poco X6 Pro leading into launch, it’s safe to presume, it is something special. Not only is it set to launch with one of the most powerful mobile chips— MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra— in its segment, it is also set to offer the latest and greatest software that Xiaomi makes at the time of writing. Stay tuned for more updates.
