Microsoft releases Majorana 1: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday announced that after a 20-year pursuit, the company has created an “entirely new state of matter” that enables a fundamental leap in computing with new class of materials and topoconductors.
Microsoft has released Majorana 1, the world’s first quantum chip which is powered by Topological Core architecture. The company believes this chip will help create quantum computers that can solve industrial-scale level problems in just years and not decades.
Creating a sense of excitement, Nadella took to his X account and asked people to imagine a chip that is so small that it fits in the palm of the hand. That chip can solve all the problems that not even all computers could not. Nadella stressed on the fact that this chip was decades in the making which is why the progress was possible.
“It takes patience and persistence to have big impact in the world. And I am glad we get the opportunity to do just that at Microsoft,” Nadella wrote in his X post.
Giving more information about this “new state of matter”, Nadella said that the qubits that have been created with topoconductors are more reliable, faster, and smaller. In fact they are just 1/100th of a millimeter, which means the developers now create a million-qubit processor.
He further added that this development is not just about hyping technology, but about building a technology that serves the world in a true sense.
