Micromax Yu Yuphoria smartphone launched in India, priced at Rs 6,999. Micromax founder Rahul Sharma’s YU smartphone brand on Tuesday brought to India’s its second phone, the Yuphoria. The phone has a very competitive price point of Rs 6,999 despite its metal frame body and 5-inch HD screen. Pre-bookings on Amazon start today and the smartphone will go on sale on 28 May.
Sharma said that this will be a ‘Made-in-India’ smartphone and was developed in Bangalore and Beijing. He said that the first couple of batches for the Yuphoria will be shipped from China and that the rest of the units will be made-in-India.
Sharma also said that the company had sold over half a million Yureka smartphones in the first four months.
The Yu Yuphoria offers a 5-inch 720p HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. It runs on a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 2GB of RAM, Adreno 306 GPU and 16 GB internal storage. The device is powered by Cyanogen OS 12 and comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera with a wide-angle lens. The smartphone is powered by a 2,230 mAh battery. It is a dual SIM smartphone with 4G support.
The company also launched a Yu Fit band at Rs 999. The band will run in tandem with the Yu app. The band has an OLED screen as well and will show notifications for calls, emails, along with the other fitness benchmarks. Incidentally, Micromax had invested in the Bangalore-based HealthifyMe app recently. The YuFit app will work the Healthifyme services and will offer personal fitness coaches to users. Customers can even call up, chat with these coaches, health trainers. The first 1,000 customers will get a free fitness coach.
But the really innovative launch from the company has to be the new health sensor that records on vital stats using the mobile phone. The sensor can yoke to any smartphone and can hence cater to multiple users. The unique YU Health device has been priced at Rs 4,999 and will be available from June. The HealthYu Cassette as it is called will record respiration and Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Blood Oxygen saturation, Body vitals, ECG and more.
