Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018) is underway in Las Vegas and the technology giants have started showcasing their products. LG, just like in the past, is present at the tradeshow, this time to launch a product that was showed off around two years ago. LG Display has unveiled the world’s first rollable television featuring an OLED display with 4K resolution support. This immensely futuristic OLED display was first introduced to the world a couple of years ago, as a prototype from the house of LG. The foldable LED display prototype received several advancements over time, as a result of which, LG Display’s rollable OLED TV features a 65-inch display with 4K resolution support. It can be rolled into a tube form and can be carried from one place to another.
The entire OLED display panel resides in a cylindrical box from where the display panel can be pulled upwards to watch television, and it can be rolled back into the box when not in use. Apart from the aforementioned piece of information, other details such as pricing and specifications are unknown as of now. Also unknown is the utility of LG Display’s rollable OLED display and how it is going to shape the TV watching habits of consumers. This rollable television will, of course, target the portability, an area where most tech giants are continuously ramping up their efforts.
LG, at CES 2018, also unveiled the world’s first 88-inch 8K OLED TV and a Crystal Sound OLED integration technology. The 8K OLED TV boasts of a resolution of 7680×4320 pixels, which is four times that of 4K, and 16 times the standard full-HD (1080×1920-pixel) resolution. The price and availability of the OLED TV are yet to be announced. The other technology that LG showcased is the Crystal Sound OLED integration that aims to redefine the sound mechanisms in televisions. This technology can emit sound directly from the television panel, without the need of speakers.
