If you haven’t noticed, Lenovo has been hyperactive in recent months with a view to increase its brand awareness in the Indian market. It has introduced a slew of new mobile phones (including those from the Moto brand that it now owns), laptops, tablets and convertible devices in the low-end, mid- and high-end segment. In order to better connect with India’s young and tech-savvy audience, the $46-billion Chinese tech behemoth has gone in for an image makeover with a digital and social-first strategy, represented by a “Never stand still” logo. In short, customers now see Lenovo as a company that spans across categories and is more customer-centric with its offerings. Recently, Lenovo debuted its Vibe P1 and P1m smartphones for business and power users. We got the P1m for product evaluation, the device retails for an affordable R7,999. Let us check out some of its features and performance.
P1m is designed to address a large and important ‘road warriors’ segment. Company officials inform that this smartphone has been tailored for busy professionals, who place greater emphasis on productivity, connectivity and security over multimedia and camera functions. In its week-long stay with me, I was convinced that P1m has the potential to be an ideal mobile package for the working professionals who are always on the move and require an
affordable, sturdy and easy-to-use, full-featured device to support their work-related tasks as well as some form of entertainment.
For instance, ‘running out of juice’ can be literally a thing of the past with the Vibe P1m; it boasts a powerful 4,000mAh battery that provides a couple of days of of battery life, and advanced power management functions. It comes with a clever physical Power Saver Button which enables a user to extend the battery life instantly. A user can boost the battery life conveniently at the flick of a switch, while still retaining phone, SMS, radio, calculator and calendar functions. The phone rapidly recharges the battery to about 80% capacity in an hour by supplying extra power, which is closely regulated via smart overheating protection for user safety.
P1m is claimed by company officials to be an exceptional performer in extreme conditions too. It comes with a P2i nano-coating which makes it splash-proof (non-submergible) and dust resistant. This offers greater protection against rain and accidental spills. We all need such protection for our prized mobile possessions, don’t we?
Probing further, P1m has a 12.7 cm (5-inch) HD IPS screen along with a metal like frame and a classy matte-finish back giving it a premium look and feel. This Lenovo phone houses a 64 bit Quad-Core processor along with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory (expandable to 32 GB). This combination ensures that the phone can handle all the challenges you throw at it without any issue.
P1m supports all Indian 4G bands and has dual SIM slots.
On the camera front, P1m has a 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP Selfie camera with auto beautification feature. Apart from 16 GB internal storage, you can extend the storage upto 32 GB with an expandable SD card slot. P1m ships with the Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
In my test-run, the Vibe P1m came across as a powerful device which can offer dependable performance for mobile executives. It has a crisp and versatile screen on which movies, games and photos really come alive. It also has a powerful processor. Multitasking is pretty smooth, calls are crisp, the phone’s speakers emit powerful sound and shooting with the Vibe P1m is a snap too.
In short, P1m has all the necessary ingredients to stand out in the already-crowded mobile phone market. Highly recommended.
