Apple is rumoured to be cooking up something exceptionally slim for its 2025 iPhone lineup. Codenamed “D23,” this potential “iPhone Slim” is sparking excitement with promises of a radical redesign, reminding Apple fansof the iPhone X’s debut.

While details are scarce this early in the rumour cycle, the core concept is clear: an iPhone that prioritises thinness without compromising performance. The so-called “iPhone Slim” could be the company’s thinnest smartphone to date. While it’s still early in the rumour cycle, several intriguing details have emerged about this potential addition to the iPhone lineup.

The thinnest iPhone?

The desire of a thinner smartphone is undeniable. We’ve seen devices grow gradually sleeker over the years, but the iPhone Slim could to take this trend to its logical extreme. Reports suggest it could be Apple’s thinnest device yet, shadowing even the current record-holder from the house of Apple- the iPad Pro. A report from May indicated that this device might be part of the iPhone 17 series, codenamed D23, and could be a major redesign.

Potentially ultra-premium

Rumours also hint that the iPhone Slim could align with the “Ultra” designation, suggesting it might be a premium model with high-end features and a price tag to match. According to serial leaker Ice Universe, this model could start at $1,299.

Design and durability

As a thinner device, the iPhone Slim would require a robust frame to ensure durability. There are whispers that Apple could use a titanium-aluminum alloy to achieve the right balance and weight.

Camera- a concern?

The biggest trade-off could be the camera and battery. The chase of extreme thinness could lead to compromises in battery life and camera capabilities. There are rumours that iPhone Sim could come with a single rear camera due to its slim profile. While there hasn’t been any mention of battery life so far, a thinner device ultimately means there will be a much thinner battery, and so less battery capacity. Apple will need to work around this.

iPhone Slim could out the iPhone 17 Plus

There’s speculation that the iPhone Slim might replace the iPhone 17 Plus in Apple’s lineup. Adding the iPhone Slim could result in a five-model range, which may be too extensive for some consumers. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that Apple could discontinue the Plus model due to lower sales, with the Slim potentially taking its place.

Display

The iPhone Slim is rumoured to feature a 6.6-inch 120Hz ProMotion display. The device might also retain the Dynamic Island feature at the top, with potential modifications for a smaller camera aperture.
