iPhone SE may not be dead, contrary to previous speculations. Apple’s fourth-generation iPhone SE, codenamed Ghost, is expected to receive a new design derived almost entirely from the base model iPhone 14, according to a new report by MacRumors.
The iPhone SE 4 will replace the iPhone SE 3 which was launched last year. The report states that iPhone SE4 will ditch the traditional iPhone 8-style design and instead sport a more modern design inspired from the base model of iPhone 14.
Additionally, the iPhone 14 is expected to use a modified version of the iPhone 14 chassis and come with Face ID detection instead of a Touch ID home button.
The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is anticipated to be lighter than the iPhone 14, weighing 165 grams. This weight difference is attributed to the single-camera design, featuring a 48-megapixel rear camera codenamed as “Portland.”

The chassis remains similar to the base model iPhone 14, but the iPhone SE 4 introduces notable features—an Action button and a USB-C port. The Action button is user-configurable that can be programmed to perform various tasks, such as launching a specific app or taking a screenshot. The USB-C port would be a welcome addition to the iPhone SE lineup, as it would make the device more compatible with other accessories and devices.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be released in 2024, and it will be interesting to see how it is received by consumers. The MacRumors report suggests that Apple is taking the iPhone SE 4 seriously, and could launch it as a competitive device in the budget smartphone market. However, it is important to note that the iPhone SE 4 is still rumoured to be a budget-friendly device which means users may have to settle with a lower-resolution display or a smaller battery.
