The iPhone 17 is in hype these days. Even though the actual launch date is months away, leaks and rumours from industry insiders have gives us hints about the entire package. There will be four new models but Apple is replacing the Plus variant with the iPhone 17 Air – a new model that focuses on offering a sleek and slim profile. There will be more differences in the choice of chipsets used and the same can be said for the camera sensors. As a result, the prices are no longer going to stay unchanged.
Based on new rumours, it is now said that the iPhone 17 series, which includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will see a price hike across the range. While the Pro versions have observed price hikes across generations owing to change in materials and addition of new features. The standard and Plus variants have costed more or less the same, until now.
iPhone 17 price to go up by Rs 10,000
The iPhone 17’s launch price is expected to start from Rs 89,990, thus marking a hike of Rs 10,000 over what the iPhone 16 cost at launch last year. Hence, the iPhone 17 128GB variant could set you back by Rs 89,990, followed by the 256GB variant asking Rs 1 lakh.
In a similar fashion, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a starting price of Rs 1 lakh, filling in the slot of the iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 17 Pro could starts from Rs 1.3 lakh whereas the iPhone 17 Pro Max could start at Rs 1.55 lakh.
Note that these are rumoured prices and Apple is yet to confirm anything. Hence, you should take these with a pinch of salt.
Do iPhone 17 upgrades justify price hike?
The price hike for the iPhone 17 may be a tough pill to swallow, considering that the device will feature the iPhone 16’s A18 chip for the second year. Apple is expected to pacify buyers with a new 120Hz OLED display, a nicer 24MP front camera, larger battery capacity and faster charging solution.
The iPhone 17 Air will be an all new model focusing on a slim profile, which could beat the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in its own game. While the device could only get a single 48MP camera sensor at the back along with a smaller capacity battery than the iPhone 16 Plus, the Air version could justify its price with a faster and more efficient A19 chip, a 120Hz OLED display and new colourways.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to get newer rear camera sensors, the next-gen 3nm A19 Pro chip, an even larger capacity battery with after wired and wireless charging and a host of new Apple Intelligence features.
