Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature not only the thinnest screen bezels ever seen on an iPhone, but any smartphone to date, period, according to multiple online reports coming from China. Serial tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce on X) has corroborated these claims, adding credence to what are in fact leaks you’re advised to always approach with a pinch of salt.
Measurements doing the rounds of the Internet reveal that the iPhone 16 Pro will have bezels measuring just 1.2 mm, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will push the envelope further with 1.15 mm bezels. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro’s bezels are 1.71 mm thick. While this difference may seem minor, it is expected to be noticeable when the devices are viewed side-by-side. The reduction in bezel size is part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance the aesthetic appeal and user experience of its flagship devices. It is really going for slimming things down.
The new iPad Pro for instance is its thinnest product ever made, thinner than even the iPod Nano. It gives a sense of where Apple is going. Though this report is about iPhone bezels, we can expect Apple to slim down the overall dimensions as well. These advancements are not just about aesthetics; thinner bezels can also contribute to a more immersive display experience. By minimising the border around the screen, Apple can offer a larger viewing area without increasing the overall size of the device.
We are still a few months away from Apple’s high-profile fall iPhone launch event and things might change last minute, but these leaks surely make the wait both taxing and exciting especially if you’re someone who is eyeing to get the new iPhone 16 Pro at launch. Before that, Apple is gearing for something even bigger, some might say. In a few days from now, Apple will reveal its AI plans and how these plans will come together to power its devices. The announcements are expected at the upcoming WWDC 2024 on June 10.
