Are you looking to join Microsoft or want to know how much the Redmond giant pays its new hires? A leaked salary guideline of the company may help you get an idea of it. The company’s salary guidelines have reportedly been leaked online, shedding light on how the company determines compensation for its employees.

These guidelines, which were published earlier this year as per an Insider report, provide information about how much Microsoft pays new hires at various levels, including details on base pay, hiring bonuses, and annual stock awards. Talking about the application and scope, the news report notes that it is unclear how broadly these guidelines apply across different business units.

Microsoft’s compensation packages differ based on factors such as the employee’s field and location. As a result, there is no uniform company-wide standard for pay at each level across all business units. Higher salaries are offered to employees in locations with a higher cost of living, such as New York and San Francisco, and certain fields, like engineering, seek higher pay.

According to the leaked information, Microsoft uses a level-based system to denote seniority, with higher levels corresponding to more senior roles. “Senior” starts at level 63, “principal” at level 65, and “partner” at level 68. There are different levels in different fields, and some reach up to level 80, called as “technical fellow.”

The highest rank within the company appears to be that of Level 70, with a base salary range of $231,700 to $361,500. In addition to the base salary, employees at this level also seem to get hiring bonuses ranging from $310,000 to a whopping $1.2 million. However, not all roles go up to Level 70. Engineering team professionals at this level would be considered a “distinguished engineer.”

Level 52 seems to be for the lowest-ranking employees receiving a salary of $42,500, with no entitlement to hiring bonuses or stock awards.
