Google Maps has introduced some new features in India. The new feature will help the users to know about accidents and mobile speed cameras on the road. According to a report in Cartoq, the feature will allow Google Maps users to report an accident on the road. The accident report will start appearing on the Maps after some other users report and confirm the same.
The Maps will also show the number of people who have reported the incident or the speed camera location, Cartoq said in its report. With the new feature, the driving experience is going to be better as it will allow the users to predict the road conditions as well. Until now, this feature was available only in countries like USA, UK, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and Indonesia.
At present, the speed camera function is available only on devices run by Android and is expected to be released on the iOS platform soon. In India, speed cameras are limited to select major cities and towns, and hence most of the drivers are unprepared for this or even know its location.
Google Maps, which has remained one of the most commonly used navigation apps by Google so far, in December 2018 had introduced auto-rickshaw’ routes along with fares in Delhi on Google Maps app. Tech giant Google had said that by choosing this mode, users could see suggested routes for their commute and also estimate auto-rickshaw fares and had added that the feature would be based on the official fare model which was shared by the Delhi Traffic Police.
Google Maps has been continuously evolving. Last year too, Google I/O had given a sneak peek of augmented reality (AR) in Maps with its demo displaying an advanced navigation system which would show users businesses and shops nearby as well.
Google Maps shows more than a billion kilometres worth of transit results every day across the world and has schedules for over three million public transit stops globally, Google had said.
