ChatGPT has launched a new feature, Scheduled Tasks, which allows users to automate their work by scheduling prompts for ChatGPT to run at specific times. This feature is currently in beta for users on the Plus, Pro, and Team plans, with plans to expand its availability.
What is this new feature called Scheduled Tasks?
Scheduled Tasks enable ChatGPT to complete actions on your behalf at a scheduled time, even when you’re offline. Whether it’s reminding you about important dates or giving you daily updates, ChatGPT can now perform tasks without you needing to be actively involved.
How to use Scheduled Tasks
To start using Scheduled Tasks, you need to:
- Open the Tasks Section:
Click on your profile icon in ChatGPT, then select Tasks from the pop-up menu. - Create a New Task:
You can choose from suggested tasks or create your own by typing a prompt like, “Remind me about my mom’s birthday on March 13th.” - Confirm Your Task:
After submitting your task, you will receive a confirmation. From here, you can decide when to receive notifications.
Managing and editing tasks
Once you’ve created a task, you can easily manage it. To edit or pause a task:
- View tasks:
Navigate to the Tasks section and select View all tasks to see your active tasks. - Update or delete:
Click on the vertical three dots menu next to the task to edit, pause, or delete it. You can also update the task’s schedule or instructions from here.
Notifications and custom settings
For task notifications, ChatGPT allows you to choose how you want to be alerted:
- Push Notifications: Receive alerts on your mobile device.
- Email Notifications: Get updates via email when a task is completed.
- You can adjust these notifications in your Settings section, under Notifications.
You can also personalise your task schedule by setting it for a specific time or a recurring basis. ChatGPT will provide a link to the conversation, allowing you to adjust the timing and follow up on changes.
Usage limits and availability
Currently, each user can have up to 10 active scheduled tasks at once. If you reach this limit, you will need to pause or delete a task before creating a new one.
Scheduled tasks are currently available on ChatGPT Web, iOS, Android, and MacOS. However, the Windows app will support this feature in Q1 of 2025.
How are Scheduled Tasks useful?
Scheduled tasks are perfect for busy individuals who want to automate routine tasks like setting reminders, getting daily updates, or practicing skills. This feature helps you stay organised without needing to manually prompt ChatGPT each time.
