Late last year, Apple announced a significant expansion of its retail presence in India, confirming plans to open four new physical stores in Pune, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The launch—or opening—seems imminent now according to a LinkedIn post from John Taffe, an Apple Store “leader,” who revealed the company’s intent to bolster its footprint in these key Indian cities with a massive hiring spree underway at the time of writing.
“We’re excited to announce the opening of four new Apple retail stores in Pune, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore! Apple’s journey in India has been incredible, and we’re thrilled to continue growing in these vibrant cities,” Taffe wrote on LinkedIn.
To staff these new locations, Apple is actively recruiting “passionate and talented individuals” for various roles, spanning a diverse range from customer service to store management. These employees will help Apple create “amazing experiences” for its Indian customer base.
Over twenty profile openings have gone live within March on the “Jobs at Apple” website. Eight of them posted on March 10, are specific to Apple retail, with roles residing at “various locations” within India.
“Whether you’re experienced in retail or eager to start a new career path, there are opportunities waiting for you,” Taffe added.
The news coincides with Apple’s record-breaking fiscal 2025 first-quarter results in India. The iPhone was the top-selling smartphone model during this period, highlighting the brand’s growing popularity despite a relatively small market share. Clearly, this success has fuelled Apple’s confidence in the Indian market’s potential for future growth.
Apple launched its online store in 2020, followed by the Apple Store app India edition in January 2024, increasing its direct-to-consumer outreach and engagement. The first wave of Apple Stores arrived in India in April 2023 beginning with Mumbai (BKC) and Delhi (Saket).
“Our stores are incredible places to experience the magic of Apple, and it’s been wonderful to deepen our connection with our customers in India,” Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail had said in October 2024. “We’re thrilled to build our teams as we plan to open more stores in India, because we’re inspired by the creativity and passion of our customers across this country. We can’t wait for them to have even more opportunities to discover and shop for our amazing products and services, and connect with our extraordinary, knowledgeable team members.”
Beyond retail, Apple is also strengthening its manufacturing capacity in India. The company is now making the entire iPhone 16 lineup locally, from the entry-level iPhone 16e to the premium Pro and Pro Max models. This move aligns with Apple’s “Make in India” initiative, which began in 2017.
