Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Who is the chic-est of them all? Marking the end of an era, appointed in 1988, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, announced her departure earlier this year. Leaving the prized crown empty of an heir, the fashion industry was abuzz with speculations on who would hold the reins of the media mogul with over 20 international publications.
The wait, however, has come close to an end as the final successor would be announced just ahead of the New York Fashion Week in September. A Page Six report suggests that Chloe Malle, the daughter of the famous actress Candice Bergen, is set to succeed the fashion ice queen. Sources close to the matter have told the outlet that Malle is in the “final rounds” of interviews for the position.
Who is Chloe Malle?
Chloe Malle, the current editor of Vogue.com, in her most recent endeavour, interviewed Lauren Sanchez ahead of her extravagant wedding to Amazon’s Jeff Bezos in Venice. The daughter of actress Candice Bergen and French director Louis Malle, she also co-hosts Vogue’s podcast ‘The Run-Through’ along with Chioma Nnadi. A graduate of Brown University, she has given nearly 15 years to Conde Nast. Starting at the Social Editor for Vogue Magazine in 2011, she was promoted to Editor in 2023.
Top contenders for the post
As per the Page Six report, Nicole Phelps, the global director of Vogue Runway, the online portal for fashion shows, is also in line for the race. However, bashing the rumours, Meta’s crucial piece Eva Chen, Wintour’s close buddy, is no longer a contender for the post. Chen heads the Fashion Partnerships at Instagram and previously worked on Conde Nast’s Teen Vogue and Lucky.
Speculations even suggest W Magazine’s Sara Moonves was also linked to the desirable role, but reports suggest she was too busy managing her business in her existing role. Malle’s co-host is no competition either, given her role as Head o Editorial Content at British Vogue, who started the same time Chloe Malle was made editor.
Anna Wintour stepped down
The final word on the Fashion Bible and the director of fashion’s biggest night out, stepped down from her post after 37 years. However, she hasn’t abandoned her title as ‘Editor-in-Chief’ will no longer be filled. Wintour is now hunting for the debutant head of editorial content instead. Continuing her position as Vogue’s global director and chief content officer for Conde Nast, the fashion world awaits how she will influence the next Met Gala in 2026.
