Dussehra 2025: The tenth day after the nine holy days of Navratri and the last day of Durga Puja, is known as Dussehra or Vijayadashami. A significant day in Indian culture, it marks the last day of the nine holy days in the Hindu calendar and celebrates the victory of good over evil, victory of Lord Ram over Ravan. It is also the same day, mythology believes that Goddess Durga slayed demon Mahishasur, signifying the prevalence of the good.
Vijayadashami or Dussehra 2025 falls on the tenth day of Ashvin, the seventh month in the Hindu lunisolar calendar, which corresponds to late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar.

According to drikpanchang.com, the Dashami Tithi begins on October 1 at 7:01 PM and ends on October 2 at 7:10 PM, while Shravan Nakshatra will be in effect from 9:13 AM on October 2 to 9:34 AM on October 3.
Dussehra 2025 will be officially observed on Thursday, October 2, with the auspicious mahurta set between 2:05PM and 2:53 PM. This year, Dussehra is coinciding with the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, honoured as Mahatma Gandhi.
Dussehra or Dasara usually marks the cleansing of all evil with several rituals practiced across several regions in India. Devotees come together on this day, with prayers, cultural festivities, and end with day together by burning the effigy of Ravan, Meghnad and Kumbhkaran. During nine days of Navratri, people enjoy going to Ramleela functions as they partake in carnival-like celebrations with their near and dear ones. Laced with commercial activities, swings, and rides, Dussehra also marks the beginning of Diwali preparations which falls twenty days after the festival. Several significant Hindu festivals like Dhanteras, Bhai Duj, and Chhat Puja add to the festive cheer.
Thursday, October 2, will be observed as a compulsory public holiday. All government offices across India will remain closed. Dussehra is also a bank holiday where all public and private banks would remain closed.
