Furthermore, she also explained the misconception about Diwali’s date. She said that Diwali is celebrated annually on the Amavasya of the Kartik month. This year, Amavasya falls on both October 31 and November 1, creating anxiety among believers.
Amavasya technically stretches into November 1, but Diwali will be celebrated on October 31. The explanation is that Amavasya Tithi begins at 3:12 pm on October 31 and ends at 05:14 pm on November 1, following which Pratipada Tithi begins. Since Diwali is traditionally celebrated on the night of Amavasya, therefore the festivities will take place on October 31 during the Pradosh Kaal (evening) and into the late night.
