Sharad Purnima 2017: Sharad (Kojagari) Purnima is a harvest festival which is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu Lunar Ashwin month. According to oneindia, this year Sharad Purnima falls on October 5. This marks the end of monsoon and is also known as Kojagara, Kojagari, Kojagiri Purnima and Kumar Purnima. Sharad Purnima celebrates the moon in a traditional way which is referred to as Kaumudi celebration. According to oneindia, the Mahurat timings this year are as follows:

Sharad Purnima which marks the end of monsoon is held to worship Maa Lakshmi. according to Newsfolo, devotees after waking up early should bathe and decorate the idol of Lakshmi, light a lamp and chant the mantras. The occasion is observed by newly married women who perform rigorous fast for the whole day. The day is celebrated by chanting prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and offering a preparation of Kheer made out of milk, rice, sugar and Kept under the moonlight for the whole night, according to oneindia. The offering is then consumed by the family the next morning. According to oneindia, this is the only day when the moon comes out with all 16 Kalas. In Hindu mythology, 16 Kalas signifies human quality and it is believed that the combination of these make a perfect human personality. It was Lord Krishna who was born with all 16 Kalas and He was the complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Along with Lord Krishna, Lord Indra is also worshipped on this day.
