All you need to know about Kadamakkudy
Tucked away in the Ernakulam district, Kadamakkudy is a scenic archipelago made up of 14 small islands located just 15 km from Kochi. Known for its tranquil landscapes, expansive paddy fields, and serene backwaters, the region offers a window into traditional village life in Kerala.
This place is a hit among nature lovers and birdwatchers, who often spot a diverse range of avian species, from native herons and kingfishers to migratory birds like painted storks. The islands are known for their quiet charm and untouched surroundings.
In addition to its natural beauty, Kadamakkudy also offers cultural and historical experiences. Some of the most popular sites nearby include the centuries-old St. George’s Forane Church, the Vallarpadam Basilica, and the Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary.
How to reach Kadamakkudy
Kadamakkudy is accessible by road via Kochi. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, located approximately 30 km away. Visitors can either hire taxis or take local buses from the airport to reach the islands. While direct train or ferry connections are currently unavailable, the journey along winding village roads and narrow bridges makes for the perfect short road trip. In fact, this journey is often described as part of the experience.
Tourism experts recommend visiting between October and March, when the monsoon retreats and the region’s natural beauty is at its peak.
