Actor Kim Soo Hyun has reportedly submitted around 150 “love letters” in an effort to prove his innocence in the late Kim Sae Ron case, emphasising that they were not dating during his military service. Attorney Ko Sang Rok, who was recently appointed to represent the Queen of Tears star, addressed the controversy on his blog, claiming he has reviewed the journal Soo Hyun maintained along with all relevant materials.
His findings reveal that the actor was dating someone else, contrary to the allegations. “There are materials showing he would take the diary on every leave, show it to his partner, and interact with her,” the attorney said (Via OSEN).
Kim Soo Hyun’s ‘love letters’ to girlfriend released
On the 30th, attorney Ko wrote on his blog, “I went through a diary Kim Soo Hyun kept during his military service, which started with notes on daily life but later included entries about a romantic partner.” He emphasised that the late Kim Sae-ron was not his romantic partner during his military service, OSEN reported.
Ko highlighted that all publicly available photos and objective materials show their relationship beginning in the summer of 2019 and ending the following spring. At that time, Kim Sae Ron was a legal adult and a first-year university student. “If they had been dating for six years, as some allege, there would be photos from other periods, not just after she became an adult,” Ko added.
He also pointed out that a postcard Kim Soo Hyun sent in November 2019 contained expressions typical of a couple who had just started dating, such as, “I will nag and pay attention from now on” and “Even if we fight, I will apologise first.”
Addressing claims that Kim Sae-ron was a minor during their relationship, Ko clarified that Kim Soo Hyun was involved with another partner from 2016 until spring 2019. “During his military service, from January 2018 to July 2019, there are about 150 diary-style letters written to his actual partner. These entries are filled with sincere reflections on daily life, affectionate messages, and plans for the future after discharge,” Ko explained.
Kim Soo Hyun sent ‘just one letter’ to Kim Sae Ron
Soo Hyun’s attorney claimed there was only one letter sent to the late Kim Sae Ron during the same period. According to Ko, its tone is entirely different, just like an ordinary message to an acquaintance or friend rather than a romantic partner. “On the day he sent that letter, he also wrote in his diary about missing his actual partner,” Ko added.
He added, “The large volume of letters Kim Soo Hyun wrote to his actual partner during his military service is highly credible evidence that the claims of an inappropriate relationship with a minor are false.”
Kim Soo Hyun’s letter to his ‘real girlfriend’
Attorney Ko Sang Rok of Phil Law Firm confirmed that Kim Soo Hyun was frequently in touch with his actual girlfriend while serving in the military after enlisting in October 2017. From January 2018 until his discharge, he exchanged roughly 150 letters, personally delivering them during leaves. (Via OSEN)
In a diary entry dated July 30, 2018, Kim Soo Hyun wrote:
“I’m definitely going to go on a trip with her this time next year. I’ll do everything new and never done before with her. We will go far for a long time. I want to cherish and love each other deeply, but sometimes fight and make up. There are so many things I want to experience.”
Another entry on August 3, 2018, read:
“I’m getting hit by reality in the military, but one thing is clear. I am treating her better than before I enlisted. I still miss her and want to see her. I’m grateful to be able to make her feel good and happy. I’m reflecting deeply and grateful every day she waits for me.”
Attorney Ko assessed these records, stating, “These are genuine writings that shows his feelings and circumstances at the time. They are highly credible and cannot be manipulated, making them valid legal evidence.”
Attorney Ko claimed that Kim Soo Hyun often wrote to acquaintances to maintain a sense of connection, and the letter to the late Kim Sae Ron falls into this category. He further explained, “Letters to his girlfriend included phrases like ‘I love you’ and ‘I miss you,’ while the letter to the deceased contained only general reflections on military life and comments on the weather He continued, “The 150 letters Kim Soo yun left during his military service were written naturally over time, not fabricated to protect anyone. They are legally valid and support the facts of the relationship.”
Kim Soo Hyun’s team has filed for defamation and damages against the late Kim Sae Ron’s family and YouTubers, while the bereaved family has countersued the team, alleging violations of the Child Welfare Act and false accusations.
In May, a recording file surfaced claiming that Kim Sae-ron had dated Kim Soo-hyun since middle school. Kim Soo-hyun’s side rejected it, stating the recording was fabricated using AI and other methods, and vowed to take strong action against the false claims.
