Rapper Cardi B has gone viral yet again. Not for her music this time, but for her appearance in court after being sued for physical and emotional abuse. Involved in a legal battle with a security official from a hospital, Emani Ellis, the plaintiff, filed a lawsuit against Cardi B for more than $20 million. However, after dismissing those charges, Cardi B posed for pictures and added, “I am not that celeb that you sue.”
While her court appearance videos have gone viral, a clip surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) that showed her nearly dozing off during the court proceedings. In a polka dot black dress with a pink bow, she was seemingly drowsy, almost about to fall asleep, while the arguments were still on. The Internet has been speculating whether she was under the influence of any substance, or genuinely tired when she decided to take a nap during the $24 Million civil assault trial.

Even during the court proceedings, Cardi B’s candid and quirky responses to the lawyer kept her buzzing in social media discussions. The lawyer, on the other hand, received a lot of backlash for his unprecedented “hamburger and bun” analogy and overall “argumentative tone,” even during his appearance in court. After making her winning appearance outside the court, the reporters questioned the rapper, addressing the rumours of her fourth pregnancy with Offset. Lashing out violently, Cardi B threw a pen at the crowd and said, “Respect Women!”
Why was Cardi taken to court?
This was related to an incident from February 2018, where a security guard claimed that she was allegedly assaulted by Cardi B in the hospital premises. As per the rapper, she was at her obstetrician’s office, which had been reportedly closed for other patients during her then-secret first pregnancy. Ellis, who filed the lawsuit, was reportedly filming Cardi without her consent. She claimed further that Cardi not only hurled abuses at her but also cut her face with her fingernail and spat on her.
Denying the altercation, the hip-hop star’s viral testimony has sent the netizens into splits. However, she acknowledged that it was only a verbal argument where both parties used several curse words at each other. In the end, the jury found Cardi B not liable in the lawsuit brought by Ellis and gave her a quick and clean chit.
