Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s highly anticipated War 2 is holding its ground at the box office, even as it faces stiff competition from Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna’s Coolie. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the latest addition to YRF’s spy universe had a powerful start on Independence Day weekend but has seen some ups and downs over the first three days.
The film opened with a strong Rs 52 crore on Day 1 (Thursday, August 14), due to the holiday buzz. Day 2 brought in a stronger collection with Rs 57.35 crore, riding on the Independence Day holiday wave. However, Day 3 (Saturday, August 16) showed signs of slowing down, with collections dropping to an estimated Rs 33 crore (all languages). This took the three-day India net total to Rs 142.35 crore. By the end of Saturday, early trade estimates suggested the film had already crossed the Rs 150 crore mark in India.
War 2 Worldwide Box Office Collection day 3
On the global front, War 2 has already crossed the Rs 200 crore gross milestone by Day 3. Overseas collections have been decent, though not at record-breaking levels. The film’s worldwide gross stood at around Rs 168 crore in two days, and with Saturday’s numbers, it comfortably breached the double century mark.
War 2 Regional Box Office Collection day 3
While the Hindi version is roaring in cinemas, Jr NTR’s presence gave War 2 a massive push in the Telugu states, where the movie has earned Rs 35 crore in three days. Tamil Nadu also showed strong numbers, with Day 3 occupancy averaging 49 per cent, better than the Hindi belt. Telugu states clocked an average of 42 per cent occupancy on Saturday, with Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru driving the footfall.
In contrast, northern states like Delhi and Mumbai lagged, with Hindi occupancy on Saturday standing at 31.42 per cent, a dip compared to the holiday high.
War 2 vs Coolie Box Office Collection day 3
One of War 2’s biggest challenges has been competing with Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna’s mass entertainer Coolie, which stormed past the Rs 300 crore mark in just three days. Despite that, War 2 has managed to stay strong, performing far better than many recent Bollywood releases.
War 2 star cast
The film also stars Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Trade experts say that while War 2 may not break the huge records set by Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan or Salman Khan’s Tiger, it is still doing well at the box office.
In the movie, Hrithik returns as Kabir, while Jr NTR plays the villain, a pairing that has excited fans across the country, especially in the South. Kiara brings a fresh spark to the spy universe, and Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor add strong performances to the story.
With big action scenes, grand visuals, and Ayan Mukerji’s stylish direction, the film has been praised for its look and scale. War 2 is definitely pulling audiences to theatres.
On Saturday, both Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR took to social media to thank fans. Hrithik said watching the audience celebrate inside theatres made his heart feel ‘fuller,’ while Jr NTR called the audience’s love ‘incredible.’
With Sunday ahead and no major release in the coming week, trade analysts expect War 2 to see another boost and maintain momentum at the box office.
