Vicky Kaushal’s period drama Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utrekar, has not only had a consistently successful box-office run, but it has emerged to be the third highest grossing Hindi film of all times. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles, the film has been having a steady run ever since its release on February 14.

Chhaava becomes the third highest grossing Hindi film

In its 4 weeks of running, the film has earned a total of Rs 552.18 crore, which includes Rs 540.38 crore in Hindi and Rs 11.80 crore in Telugu. The film earned Rs 7.5 crore and Rs 8 crore on the 29th and 30th day, in both Hindi and Telugu, according to Sacnilk. This leads to a total collection of Rs 567.68 crore in a month. Trade analysts predict that the numbers will see a steady rise until Salman Khan’s Eid release Sikandar.

Top 2 highest grossing Hindi films

Chhaava was trailing behind Ranbir Kapoor’s 2023 film Animal for a while, whose earnings stand at Rs 553.87 crore. But with its steady performance, Chhaava broke Animal’s record and secured its place in the top 3.

Currently, the highest grossing Hindi film is Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan at Rs 640.25 crore, followed by Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy Stree 2, which grossed Rs 597.99 crore.

With Chhaava being just Rs 25 crore behind Stree 2, there’s a chance that it might break the record of Shraddha Kapoor’s film as well.

Chhaava is based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal.
