Sultan box office collections: While other records hang fire even as the last of the Sultan first day collections figures hang fire (it seems the Rs 36.54 crore figure is not final), megastar Salman Khan and leading lady Anushka Sharma have managed to beat all the other high profile films and become the undisputed champion of 2016, so far.

Sultan opening day collection has battered the best movies of the year into submission, or perhaps it would be better to stay with the theme of the movie and say put on the mat.

Sultan has justified its billing as the most awaited movie of the year by racing to the top of the charts and being crowned ‘Highest Opening Day grosser of 2016’ leaving behind other top movies like the other Khan of the triumvirate (Salman Shah Rukh and Aamir), Shah Rukh Khan starrer Fan that collected Rs 19.2 cr.

Not just Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan also left other stalwarts of Bollywood biting the dust of the industry trail. Among those affected were Housefull 3, versatile actor Akshay Kumar’s standout thriller Airlift, and even the recently released controversy hit, the Shahid Kapoor starrer, Udta Punjab.

The extent of the massive achievement is clear from the fact that Salman Khan starrer has racked up numbers that are almost double the ones by the next best movie while others have been left far behind on the horizon. And we haven’t started to talk about small achievements like becoming the highest opening day grossing film based on sports and the like.

How long Salman Khan retains this title is of course uncertain as Aamir Khan’s Dangal is set to hit the screens soon.
