Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao starrer horror-comedy ‘Stree 2’ has cemented its place in cinematic history, surpassing expectations and breaking records along the way. Following a 15 percent drop in earnings on Friday, Stree 2 made a remarkable recovery by earning Rs 8.5 crore on Saturday, marking an impressive surge. The film’s momentum continued on Sunday, with collections climbing further to Rs 10.75 crore, according to Sacnilk. This boost has elevated Stree 2’s total domestic earnings to Rs 527 crore. With this achievement, Stree 2 has surpassed Gadar 2 at the box office. Sunny Deol’s film had previously earned Rs 525.7 crore in India, but Stree 2 has now exceeded that amount, solidifying its position as a major box office success.
‘Stree 2’ gains momentum over the weekend
Not only has ‘Stree 2’ triumphed domestically, but it has also raked in over Rs 750 crore globally, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the year, trailing only behind ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which amassed over Rs 1000 crore.
The film continues its meteoric rise, with each passing day bringing in impressive collections. On its 19th day, the film netted Rs 6.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The third weekend was particularly strong for the film, and it shows no signs of slowing down. As it currently stands, ‘Stree 2’ is well-positioned to break more records in the days to come.
The movie already overtaken ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’, which stands at Rs 511 crore, and is surpassed two other juggernauts: Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ (Rs 524.53 crore) and ‘Gadar 2’ (Rs 525 crore). This places ‘Stree 2’ among the top three highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. The film’s next target? Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’, which holds the top spot with Rs 584 crore in the Hindi film category.
With no major releases lined up for the rest of the month, ‘Stree 2’ has a clear path to continue its box office dominance. Kareena Kapoor’s ‘The Buckingham Murders’ and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s ‘Yudhra’ are the only notable films set to release soon, and neither is expected to significantly hinder ‘Stree 2’s golden run. Even major festivals such as Ganpati Visarjan, which typically impact box office collections, have not managed to slow the film’s momentum.
Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkumar Rao starrer ‘Stree 2’ is becoming a global phenomenon
The success of’ ‘Stree 2’ is not limited to India alone. Globally, the film’s total collection now stands at a staggering Rs 759.30 crore, continuing its journey as a box office phenomenon. Not only has it outpaced ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Gadar 2’, but it has also surpassed other major films like ‘Vedaa’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’, which was released on the same day.
Interestingly, ‘Stree 2’ faced little competition on its opening weekend. Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’, originally set for release, was delayed due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Now, with a U/A certificate in hand, ‘Emergency’ is set to release soon, but ‘Stree 2’ will likely have established itself as a box office behemoth by then. The next potential challenge comes with the release of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hansal Mehta’s ‘The Buckingham Murders’ on September 13, but the momentum *Stree 2* has gained could make it difficult for any new release to dethrone it.
‘Stree 2’ is part of the growing Maddock Supernatural Universe, and its success only adds to the excitement surrounding the franchise. Director Amar Kaushik has already announced that he is working on ‘Bhediya 2’, another installment in this supernatural world. Additionally, a new vampire film titled ‘Thamba’, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, is in the pipeline. The future looks bright for the Maddock Supernatural Universe as it continues to captivate audiences with its unique blend of horror and comedy.
