Surpassing the day 1 record established by Dangal, Secret Superstar managed to draw in a staggering USD 6.79 million [Rs. 43.35 cr] on its opening day in China.
On one hand, while Secret Superstar has become a rage at the Chinese box office and has even entered the much-coveted Rs 100 cr club in just 2 days, on the other, in the domestic box office here, the superstar Aamir Khan and Zaira Wasim starrer had failed to even make it to Rs 100 cr mark – it just managed to make Rs 41 .59 cr! This is unique, indeed! In the film, the teenaged actress and the Bollywood superstar re-teamed to make the 2017 Advait Chandan-directed film after their last picture, 2016’s Dangal, took China and the world by storm and became the highest-grossing movie ever made in India. Surpassing the day 1 record established by Dangal, Secret Superstar managed to draw in a staggering USD 6.79 million [Rs. 43.35 cr] on its opening day in China. On the second day, Secret Superstar has raked in a further USD 10.49 million [Rs. 66.95 cr] and once again surpassed the collections of Dangal that had collected USD 4.69 million [Rs. 30.30 cr.]. Aamir Khan had a spectacular, if short, role in the film and despite that the film did well in China even as this very fact is being blamed for its inadequate performance in India. Other reason can be Golmaal Again. The Ajay Devgn starrer which was a Diwali release of 2017 clashed with Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar. On one hand, where Golmaal Again garnered exponential numbers, Secret Superstar had to kneel down to its gigantic fan following. The other reason can also be the theme on which it was based which was more for a class audience and not a mass audience, unlike Golmaal Again.

But, we are not talking about India, where the film did become a qualified success, we are talking about China. And, Aamir Khan rules here! The man is not just a mega star in India, he is one in China too! Ammost all his films are released there and they invariably do stupendously well at the BO! His legion of fans rival that of any Hollywood or even those of the local film industry.

In China, according to the critics, the goodwill of Dangal and PK has benefitted the collection of Secret Superstar. It is being expected that the film is sure to rake in larger sums in the future. Adarsh further writes, ” The tremendous goodwill that #Dangal – and prior to that #PK – created in China has benefited #SecretSuperstar… Although Aamir has an extended special appearance in #SecretSuperstar, Aamir’s star pull is at the peak in China… Expect magical numbers yet again!” Given the early trends of box office collection China, the film is set to see better days in future. We only hope the film gets its due!
