Ranveer Singh on screen is the one of the best things to happen to Bollywood, but Ranveer Singh in ads? Perhaps not so much, given the actor’s latest ad for Danish fashion brand Jack and Jones. The ad features Ranveer, who’s slung a mini-skirt wearing young woman over his shoulder, and is seen presenting this shockingly objectifying tag line, “Don’t hold back. Take your work home.” That teh ad has not been banned is a shock in itself!
Needless to say, the ad didn’t go down too well with people. Rang De Basanti actor Siddarth responded to the ad by tweeting, “A new low for women’s rights in the workplace in India. What were they thinking? #Fail.”
The fashion brand soon issued an apology to all those who found the ad offensive. Vineet Gautam, country head of Bestseller India, which sells Jack and Jones, said, “As a progressive brand that is loved by youth the world over, we take our responsibility of always being respectful, as seriously as we do our bold attitude. We regret that a billboard of our current campaign has caused people distress. We did not intend to offend anyone, and have discontinued it immediately.” It also removed 12 hoardings which featured the ad.
@Actor_Siddharth We didn’t intend to offend anyone with one of our billboards. #NOTHOLDINGBACK and withdrawing it immediately.

After considerable backlash, Ranveer Singh, who’s busy promoting his latest film Befikre, issued a formal apology. According to Times Now, the actor said, “Got it wrong on the billboard. I treat all women with utmost respect.” That’s more like it, Ranveer!
