National Award winning lyricist and poet Na Muthukumar passed away on Sunday after suffering from jaundice. 41- year old Muthukumar, was known for writing songs for more than 1000 films. He had won National Award for the ‘Aananda Yaazhai Meetugiraai’ from Thanga Meengal and ‘Azhage Azhagu’ from Saivam. Some of his other films include, Thuppakki, 7G Rainbow Colony, Theri etc. With initial dreams of becoming a filmmaker, Muthukumar started his journey as a lyricist with Tamil film ‘Veera Nadai’ in 2000. In a career of 20 years, Muthukumar had worked with most of the music directors in the Tamil industry and and given some of the most loved music. He penned a record 103 songs in the year 2012.
Muthukumar hailed from Kannikapuram in Kancheepuram. Apart from the award winning movie Kakka Muttai, recently he worked on a few films like KO2 and Theri. He also has a few literature works to his name, like a novel called ‘Silk City’, and a collection of poems called ‘Ennai Sandhikka Kanavil Varathe’. Tributes from all across the industry and other places have started to pour in. Bharatiya Janta Party’s president for Tamilnadu Tamilisai Soundararajan spoke about the influence his songs personally.

Actor and Music Director GV Prakash tweeted, “Can’t believe this! Na Muthukumar is no more… He’s written more than 200 songs in my films. A huge loss! May god give strength to his family.
